However, knowing a little bit about how a vehicle works could prove to be very useful when a problem comes up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the main components that make a vehicle function correctly is the transmission. But what exactly does it do and how does it work? Here\u2019s a basic explanation to give you a better idea.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Momentum to move forward!<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In general, a transmission includes all of the elements that help transform and convey the rotation of the engine into movement of the drive wheels. The term \u201ctransmission\u201d also refers to the part that\u2019s primarily responsible for that function (a component that\u2019s connected to the back of the engine).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also connected to the gear box, the transmission moves the wheels forward at different speeds or cuts power to them entirely (in neutral) by disengaging them from the engine. It can also reverse the direction of the wheels, allowing the vehicle to back up.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>When a transmission malfunctions<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s very important to have your transmission serviced regularly, given the constant demand your vehicle places on it. Replacing the pan gasket and filter should be part of your regular transmission maintenance. It\u2019s also important to change the fluid regularly (ideally at the same time as your seasonal oil changes) to prevent the transmission from wearing down as a result of overheating caused by excess friction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have you noticed any worrying <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/different-signs-of-a-transmission-problem\/\">signs of malfunction in your vehicle\u2019s transmission<\/a>? Any abnormality related to the transmission shouldn\u2019t be ignored.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below are a few indications of transmission problems.
